Every parent becomes a parent for the first time. How do they know if they are doing it right? The obvious question is ‘compared’ to what? They look for validation by seeking help from elders, pediatricians, parenting books, online forums, social media … Growth charts and development milestones are presented as benchmarks, oJering an ‘average’ or ‘median’ standard to measure the child’s progress.
